Training for you and your dog!

Kids-N-K9's
Session 2

Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, Canine Academy Training Center and Williamson County Juvenile Services have teamed up for this exciting new “Cell Dogs” type program matching six residential academy cadets with six homeless dogs.
Cadets choose a dog to work with for the program and then come to the shelter four days a week for three weeks to care for and train their dog. The dogs work on basic manners such as sit, lie down, come, and heel in addition to some fun tricks! The cadets learn responsibility, compassion, and behavior and training.
The cadets are doing an amazing job with these dogs and have researched their dogs’ breeds and learned a lot about their personalities from working with them. The cadets have written these bios about their dogs to let people know what wonderful dogs they are so they can find great homes.
These dogs are housed in special runs in the back during the training program so if you are interested in meeting any of these fantastic dogs for your next family member, please speak to a shelter staff member.
The first program was able to find homes for all 4 dogs that the cadets worked with. Now, we are introducing the 6 new dogs that are in the program that will need homes in two weeks. We will update their profiles as we get to know the dogs better. All the pictures below have the dogs wearing a "Gentle Leader" collar which aids in the training and helps with loose leash walking. It is not a muzzle and none of these dogs are aggressive.
Canine Academy Training Center is offering 25% off of the Zone obedience classes with the adoption of any of these dogs.
Nina:
Nina is a
female shepherd mix. She gets along well with other dogs. Nina has a fair amount
of energy and would do best in an active home. She is 1-2 years old, spayed,
current on vaccinations and micro chipped. She is learning her obedience
behaviors very well and will be a fun dog for someone to continue training.
Lassie:
Lassie is a
female shepherd/lab mix. She gets along well with other dogs. Lassie has a fair
amount of energy and would do best in an active home. She is less than a 1 year
old, spayed, current on vaccinations and micro chipped. She is learning her
obedience behaviors very well and will be a fun dog for someone to continue
training. Check out Lassies ears......they often flop together on top of her
head. She is a real cutie and a fun loving dog!
Tommy:
Tommy is a male
husky mix. He gets along well with other dogs. Tommy came into the shelter
infested with fleas and had chewed his fur and skin in several places. He is now
flea free and is getting extra vitamins and skin conditioning for his skin. He
had a bath and is on his way to becoming a beautiful new dog! He is 2-3 years
old, neutered, current on vaccinations and micro chipped. He is kind of a laid
back dog but loves his treats so he enjoys working and training. He would be a
great inside dog. His breed is known for chasing livestock and small furry
critters so he should probably not live in a home with cats or on a ranch with
livestock.
Peanut Butter aka Peanut:
Peanut is a male border collie mix. He gets along well with other
dogs. Peanut is super smart and a very loving dog. He walks well on a leash and
is always eager to learn new things in class. Peanut would be great with
children of all ages as he is not too hyper and doesn't jump. Peanut would love
to have a yard to play in but he would be just as happy lying at your feet
getting some scratches. Peanut is about 2-3 years old, neutered, current on
vaccinations and micro chipped.
Sherbert:
Sherbert
is a terrier mix puppy who will be probably about a 45-50 pound dog. She is full
of energy but is doing great with her training. Sherbert has already mastered
loose leash walking and sitting. She is a very smart pup and will do well with
someone who wants to continue her training. She would be fine in a family
environment with children. She is a happy, happy little pup and is ready for her
new home. She is about 6 months old and is spayed, current on vaccinations and
micro chipped.
Lucille:
Lucille is
an awesome dog. She is a Heinz 57 mixed breed dog who we think has a little bit
of shepherd in her. She is calm, dog friendly, would do well with children and
just a nice overall pet. Lucille is about 4-5 years old and spayed, current on
vaccinations and micro chipped. Lucille has already mastered sitting and loose
leash walking and will start to learn some tricks next week. This sweetie would
be a welcome addition to any home.
If you are interested in more information about these dogs or would like to adopt one of them please contact the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter. They will provide all the information you will need to add one of these great dogs to your home!
