Basic Detection Handler Course Schedule 2010
Each Department purchasing
a Detector dog from Canine Academy Training Center must attend this
course. It is designed to teach the first time Handler the in's and out's of
learning how to use their canine to their maximum potential. Course instruction
includes temperament requirements of a dog; basic principles of dog training;
scent and effects of temperature, humidity and air currents; training drills;
building, vehicle, and open area searches; and health care of the animal.
Departments who need to have a new handler trained with an existing dog will
also find this course helpful. This course is a two week program. There is
optional NNDDA certification available at the end of the course.

Advanced Narcotic Handler Course Schedule 2010
It is designed to teach
the Handlers the in's and out's of learning how to use their canine to their
maximum potential. Course instruction includes temperament requirements of a
dog; basic principles of dog training; scent and effects of temperature,
humidity and air currents; training drills; building, vehicle, and open area
searches; and health care of the animal. In this course the searches are
more difficult in nature, making both the handler and the canine learn new ways
to search regular areas. Locations include stadiums, army surplus vehicles,
busses, tractor trailers, warehouses, hidden compartments in vehicles and other
appropriate locations. This course is also available to Departments who need to
have advanced handler training with an existing dog will also find this course
helpful. This course is a one week program.

Dual Purpose Handler Course Schedule 2010
Each Department purchasing
a Dual Purpose (Patrol/Narcotic Detector) dog from Canine Academy Training Center must attend this
course. It is designed to teach the first time Handler the in's and out's of
learning how to use their canine to their maximum potential. Course instruction
includes temperament requirements of a dog; basic principles of dog training;
scent and effects of temperature, humidity and air currents; training drills;
building, vehicle, and open area searches; and health care of the animal.
Departments who need to have a new handler trained with an existing dog will
also find this course helpful. This course is a three week program. There is
optional NNDDA certification available at the end of the course.

Basic Canine Tracking Course Schedule 2010
It is designed to teach the
Canine Handler who needs to learn Tracking. Students will learn the in's and
out's of learning how to use their canine to their maximum potential. Course
instruction includes tracking vs. trailing, air patterns and human scent theory,
wilderness tracking and city tracking, item recovery and other information
needed to have a successful tracking canine. Departments who need to have a new
handler trained with an existing dog will also find this course helpful.
Tracking will be held outdoors, indoors, brushy areas, city areas. This course is a
one week program.
October 4-8
Advanced Canine Tracking Course Schedule 2010
This course is designed to enhance the Canine team in their abilities of tracking. Course instruction includes tracking vs. trailing, air patterns and human scent theory, wilderness tracking and city tracking, item recovery and other information needed to have a successful tracking canine. This course will include longer tracks, older tracks, cross tracks, back tracks, water crossings, hard surfaces, distractions, article finds and night tracks. Tracking will be held outdoors, indoors, brushy areas, city areas. This course is a one week program.
October 11-15
Article Search and Evidence Recovery 2010
This course is designed to
compliment the canine tracking course. It is recommended that the canine team
have at least experience with basic tracking before enrolling in this course. We
will cover various ways of recovering items that are dropped by suspects on the
run or from a vehicle. The course will cover Evidence search equipment, tactics
for evidence searches, K-9 evidence alerts and other topics. The class will
include searches in country, city, indoor and outdoor settings. The course is
one week in length.
September 6-10
Tactical K9 Operations 2010
This course is designed
for patrol canines only. It is designed for both the rookie and veteran canine
team that may become involved in a tactical situation. Situational training will
include vehicle stops with multiple armed occupants, tracking armed suspects,
building searches with armed suspects, vehicle extractions and other tactical
issues. Officers will learn how to brief their backup officers and spotters on
their duties upon an arrest with a canine. There will be blank ammo fired
throughout the entire course for a realistic training environment. This is a
very intense course that will help officers with any weaknesses they may have
with tactical training.
October 18-22
Master Trainer Course Schedule 2010
This program is designed for the K9 unit supervisor or for those who wish to begin learning how to train K9's for law enforcement use. Course focuses on all aspects of police canine training but has a strong focus on patrol canines and narcotic detection canines. Kennel management, health and behavior issues as well as K9 law will be discussed. Classroom instruction and hands on work with canines will be required. This course is a 10 week program.
