Board and Train programs
  • The Canine Academy Premier Live In Board and Train

    Here's how it works...

Your dog will come and live in one of our trainer's home and receive daily training lessons.

In between training sessions, your dog will receive ample exercise, lots of playtime, and have plenty of time to relax with 2 to 3 canine friends throughout the day.

When your dog returns home, you will receive private in home lessons as well as FREE group classes for 6 months. The number of private lessons is dependent upon the amount of time your dog is with us. For every week your dog is with us, you will accumulate one in-home private training session. You can also add additional private follow up sessions for an additional fee.

Specifically, your dog will be taught "watch me", "stay", "come", "down", "loose leash walking", "leave it" and "go to your bed".

After the training has been completed, you too will also learn the and how to integrate them into your dog's routine.

Basic household "Manners", including potty training, jumping and teaching your dog to chew on appropriate bones and chew toys can also be addressed if agreed to at the free consultation. The free consultation is where we determine what's achievable and what's not - given your dog's history, previous training and the length of time we have your dog.

The most important thing to keep in mind when considering a board and train program is knowing in advance that your dog will NOT come home with improved behavior until you, the pet parent, get educated as well. The truth of the matter is that clients who expect to see real improvement with their dogs behavior must be 100% committed to follow through on what we teach them after the board and train program is complete. This is not by accident. It's because dogs are "contextual" learners. Just because our trainer can get a result from your dog, that does NOT guarantee in any way that you too will also be able to elicit the new behaviors from your dog.

Simply put, your participation and involvement after the training is complete is absolutely critical for the short-term as well as long-term success of any board and train program.

This includes integrating in ALL of follow up instructions we give you which is absolutely necessary to keep the positive momentum of going.

In addition, taking part in all of the free private training sessions, including the unlimited group classes that come with each board and train program is absolutely essential. Without your participation, there will be no measurable results for you to enjoy - regardless of how long we have your dog for and regardless of much money you spend.

one, two, three or four weeks? ($630 per week)

The dogs that are trained longer are almost always superior in their skills than dogs that are being trained for just one week. Of course, one week with us is better than no time at all.

But, if you are contemplating whether one, two, three or four weeks would be best, in most cases we will only recommend the longer stay if you believe your dog can 100% handle the separation from you.

This is a huge consideration when choosing the right program for you and your dog. You must feel confident that your dog can easily handle the time away from you.

*If your dog suffers from any kind of Separation Anxiety while being away from you, the traditional board and train program is NOT the right fit for your dog. Private Lessons would be a better option.

  • Mini Board and Train/ Refresher Program
    • 5% discount if paying cash up front
    • This is a mini 2 week board and train program that is designed as a refresher course for those dogs that have already completed one of our programs or for someone needing just a few items worked on. If your pup has already attended one of our programs we will work on all things that your pup needs help with. If you are a new client and just need a short program we offer the following in our two week board and train:
      • Leash manners (includes auto sit when you stop walking)
      • Sit with an implied stay
      • Wait (owners of dogs who rush out the door will find this very helpful)
      • Leave it (the dog won't grab the treat that is dropped on the floor)
    • One hour long private lesson for the owners when they pick up the dog.
  • Basic Board and Train Program
($995) 5% discount if paying cash up front
    • Our Basic Board & Train Program is designed for those individuals whose lifestyle doesn't allow them to personally participate in the day-to-day training of their pet. We actually board your dog and train up to three time a day. Our 3-week program covers all the same exercises as the group classes, with one exception: in the Basic Board & Train Program WE DO ALL THE WORK! At the end of 3 weeks, your dog will be able to:
      • Leash manners
      • Sit
      • Down
      • Settle
      • Stay
      • Wait
      • Leave it
      • Come
    • PLUS, we give owners two private lessons so they can learn the cues that their dog already now knows. The follow-up private lessons give you the opportunity to review your dog's new foundation obedience skills and work with your personal trainer one-on-one to transition to your own handling for continued training and skills development at home.
    • Imagine......in just 3 short weeks, you and your pet can embark on a long and enjoyable relationship.
    • For our out-of-town guests, we offer free pickup at the airport, and a video of your dogs training instead of the private lessons.
  • Top Dog Program
($1,195) 5% discount if paying cash up front
    • For those who demand the ultimate, our Top Dog Program was designed for you. Our 4 week program includes:
      • Leash manners
      • Sit
      • Down
      • Settle
      • Stay
      • Wait
      • Leave it
      • Come
      • "Mat"
    • Lifetime Training Assistance
    • 1 Free Zone Obedience Class
    • 25% off additional Zone Obedience classes
    • 6 Private Lessons
    • The "Mat" command is a great command for those dogs who spend a lot of time inside the home. The dog is taught to go to a specific mat or rug inside the home and stay there until the owner releases the dog. No more getting under your feet while trying to prepare dinner or having Fido jump in guest's lap!
    • Our "Lifetime Training Assistance" is exactly what it says. For as long as you own your dog, we will assist you if your dog is having problems, at no additional charge. And of course this program also offers the private lessons or the training video for our out of town guests. The follow-up private lessons give you the opportunity to review your dog's new foundation obedience skills and work with your personal trainer one-on-one to transition to your own handling for continued training and skills development at home.
Zone Obedience Classes
In the zone

Canine Academy Training Center offers obedience training for you and your canine friend using zone classes. Zone classes are also called level classes. The benefit of zone training is that you have more flexibility in attendance, you can move up to the next level when you are ready instead of after a specified number of classes and you may start class at any time instead of waiting for the next round. Now, you will get an 6 week punch pass which allows you to attend 6 classes of your choice in a 90 day period. So, if you need to miss a class you won’t lose the training time. If you and your dog are ready to move to a more advanced training class, you may move up to the next level at any time. We realize that some dogs learn faster and some dogs need more time. Now, you may always be in the right zone for your dogs learning abilities.

Positive Reinforcement Training

Canine Academy Training Center uses positive reinforcement training for all of our classes. This will expedite your training and make it more successful for long term use. We assign homework and give written reminders of each lesson that is taught.

The Zones

ZONE 1: Usually starts the 1st Sunday of every other month and lasts 6 weeks.

In zone 1 we cover the basic obedience cues such as loose leash walking, sit, down, settle and behavior issues. These cues lay the fundamentals that each canine must learn before they can advance to the next zone.

ZONE 2: Runs continuously and you may start at anytime after you have passed Zone 1.

In zone 2 we reinforce the cues learned in zone 1 and we introduce wait, leave it, mat, recall (Come). We work on longer sits and downs, loose leash walking around objects and distractions. We also introduce the dogs to basic agility equipment.

ZONE 3: Runs continuously and you may start at anytime after you have passed Zone 2.

In zone 3 we reinforce the training from zones 1 and 2 with major distractions. We also start the preparation for the team to pass their AKC Canine Good Citizen Test if desired. We “play” real life training games such as grocery shopping with your dog, a sit on the target game, musical chairs and other fun games. During this zone you will also start some trick training, targeting and combine the basic agility equipment to make a short agility run.

ZONE 4: Runs continuously and you may start at anytime after you have passed Zone 3.Dogs must be ready for off leash work and MUST be dog friendly. No exceptions.

In zone 4 we reinforce the training from all the other zones while the dogs are off leash. We also do offsite work with plenty of distractions. Long off leash recalls, long off leash sits and downs are performed and short agility runs using all the agility equipment will be done. In this class the dogs are constantly moving as well as the humans. We will explore new tricks, new equipment and other personalized training during this class.
